unsolicited data science career advice: learn Flask + just enough React to be able to build functional front-ends for your DS work + just enough CSS to make it look not-horrible, it's like having a superpower (and it's not that hard)

We've switched over to FastAPI for our APIs: https://t.co/ImcEe37dwC
I think you'll like it: it makes clever use of type annotations to reduce boiler-plate, and it generates Swagger docs.

I think CSS becomes a lot more approachable once you really understand the rules and underlying concepts and focus on CSS layouts, rather than just styling. So the book I'll recommend is maybe a bit unusual: "Learn CSS Layout the pedantic way" https://t.co/nB1bBLBTDp

In terms of actual *design* and building UIs, Refactoring UI is an amazing resource and it really helps pointing out those small little details that just "look good" but that you may have never noticed before. https://t.co/n1LHh8xMEb

Someone asked me for tips in the comments, so I might as well make this a thread. Here are my personal recommendations for how to get started with front-end development, APIs, CSS, React, UI design and more 👇 https://t.co/K7u3kdRpQg

🖼️ CSS layout: I only came across Every Layout @layoutplusplus recently, but the content that's published so far looks amazing. The mission: "teach you how to better harness the built-in algorithms that power browsers and CSS". https://t.co/UoJ8sSR9W0 pic.twitter.com/b0AsJZKqso

🖼️ UI design: In terms of actual *design* & building UIs, Refactoring UI by @steveschoger and @adamwathan is an amazing resource. It especially helps pointing out those small little details that just "look good" but that you may have never noticed before. https://t.co/n1LHh8xMEb pic.twitter.com/No1vga2Asa

Lack of artistic touch is a bit of an issue even if you know css well (I know css well but I struggle to get good results without mock). https://t.co/ilSHHwfJS1 solved the issue for me. It has pleasant look, well matched colors and typography and is pure css.

🖼️ Live editor & inspiration: Since you all liked the thread, here's more! @Glitch is a bit like CodePen, just slightly more focused on apps. It's a lot of fun to dive into the community projects for different topics and remix them to build your own. https://t.co/JzImfwKeUy pic.twitter.com/bTMOptXMTq

🖼️ Vue: While I mostly work with React, I also really like @vuejs. If you've already done some stuff with JavaScript and jQuery in the past and want to get started with modern JS frameworks, this article by core dev @sarah_edo is a great introduction. https://t.co/JLmW4yK8GM pic.twitter.com/YBEP60LeSh

🖼️ Accessibility: Inclusive Components by @heydonworks features in-depth articles on common UI patterns & how to implement them in a robust & accessible way. It's one of my fav front-end blogs & has taught me so much about semantic markup and acessibility. https://t.co/u4jipFCeHJ pic.twitter.com/8SyZNkt7L9
