Productivity porn misses the point. The goal of GTD/to-do lists/etc shouldn't be increasing productivity, but decreasing mental load.

That is, what can I do to get as much _out_ of my brain as possible, allowing me the time/energy to think about bigger things.

Years ago an economist said (I forgot who) that if anything takes less than a few minutes they just do it immediately. I dismissed it then, but more and more I appreciate the idea.

For example: pay less attention to the crisis du jour in the news. That is mental load I don't need to accomplish what I want in my life.
